Here is the 295 yard par 4, 7th at Engineers.  When Strong built it, it was a skyline green and none of the flanking bunkers or front green side bunker was there.
 


Then these were planted behind the green:

 



Recently, many of them fell down!  




 



And it is mostly a skyline green again:







And there was much rejoicing!

The 8th hole goes from west to east behind the green. The driving area sits in a valley behind 7. A good number of holes continue behind that.

Before they built the greenside bunkers, did the fairway run all the way to the green?  Or did it end 30 or so yards in front, as it does now?  

Does anyone drive the green now?  Did they pre-bunkers?

The aerial I have from the 30s shows no front bunker, just green side bunkers right and left but it does appear to be rough on the hillside.

We've had several hole in ones there.  I drove the green downwind for the first time a few weeks ago.  The tees were up at about 280 (from 295).  The front or right greenside bunkers are a good place to be and can regularly be driven from the back of the tee box.

Tom, the 8th fairway is directly behind and the 5th fairway beyond that.

The large stand of trees in the distance is one of the original set of trees from Strong's time.  There were always a number of trees down the right side of 5 (Strong's 4th).
