Ted K:
Should you get into the area and need someone to take you around the course please touch base with me offline. I live in Clifton where UMCC is located.
The 27-hole layout is the work of RTJ -- the original from Tillie was fundamentally altered when the Garden State Parkway came into existence.
The overall layout is what Voytek described -- fairly flat and mostly back and forth golf in a north/south & south/north emphasis.
The club's main fame is its superb location -- just 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan and easy access via all the major local roads. Because of that the club has hosted a range of events from the PGA Tour, Senior Tour and LPGA.
I believe the contract with Sybase is for three years.
UMCC's best combo is the South & East nines -- unfortunately because of parking needs the club always favors using the West & South nines for events of this type.
The best holes on the layout include the downhill dog-leg left 3rd hole on the South nine -- the 12th hole of the event. Well done greensite that is protected well by a pond that really cuts in when the pin is located in the rearmost position.
Frankly, UMCC would not sniff the top 25 courses in NJ and that's because the architectural bar of top tier golf in the Garden State is that high.
