I briefly reviewed the most recent pages of posts and didn't see that this article had been posted:

If it has, my apologies.

The sports desk figured a general readership wouldn't recognize Coore, so the headline reads "Crenshaw, partner ..."

Guy,

Maybe they could have went with: "Coore and two-time Masters' winner..."  ;D

Just a thought.

Seriously, I think Lorne did a really nice job with this column. It captures the essence, and personalities of Coore and Crenshaw very well.

Jeff,

I actually went down and talked to the sports desk about this. Turns out they didn't know who Coore was either. Sigh.

Damn. If they don't know who Coore is, Whitman and I are in trouble in the market  :-\

Who designed Lowe's Motor Speedway?...Tropicana Field?...Ford Field?....

Don't let the architects become bigger than the game itself.....I know more architects names than I do tour players....I'm not proud of that neccessarily.....

Good point, Joe. From a purist standpoint.

The problem is, if no one knows who you are, no one knows to hire you to design and build a golf course.

It's like my dad's always told me: no matter what business you're in, you're a salesman.

It's true.

Just because a bunch of Internet freaks know who Bill Coore is doesn't mean tha a sports editor does.  ;)

Truth be told, though he's a name on this site, I bet the average golfer, especially in Canada, hasn't a clue who he is. Which makes it all the more fascinating that a club like Scarboro would be so interested in having him do work there....

I was surprised Lorne didn't try to characterize the abilities of Bill or place him in a spot among his peers. After all, there are plenty of people who think he's the best golf architect in the world right now....
