I was a late scratch from this year's Dixie Cup and had been waiting patiently for pictures. I just saw Mike's photo album, great stuff. I definitely missed out big-time and hope not to miss another Dixie Cup for a long, long time. A few comments came to mind.

1) Two photos of Steve Wilson and Craig Disher. Last time I saw those two guys together they witnessed my first and only ace. I hadn't realized Steve was coming down this year, yet another pleasure I missed out on.

2) Not one but two lady participants...and one a lefty to boot! You don't see that every day.

3) Ellen Miller ought to be put on retainer as fashion consultant to all GCA events. These post-event picture sessions would be much better looking as a result.

4) Craig, that looks like an appropriately cautious attitude with which to approach those guys.

5) Here's Bill talking the Founders Club architect into including a reverse-Redan hole

6) Jamey Bryan has excellent taste in headgear.

7) Any two randomly-selected photos of the eleventh and twelfth at Bulls Bay are sufficient to identify it as a Mike Strantz course, no?

8) Mike Whitaker remains "The Man" in my book. See you soon, Mike.

P.S. Not sure why my image links are broken. I must have lost the touch.

Brent, the south didn't need your help! ;) ;D  If you were there, I'd have tried to trade McBride for you and give him two future draft picks. ::)

Truly, you were missed.   8)

Brent, good to see you on line here, hope all is well.  We did have a really good time at the Dixie Cup for the third straight year, the Stranz courses were intriguing, challenging and fun.

I didn't talk Tom Walker into a reverse Redan, but we do have one on the new Pensacola Country Club golf course that opened yesterday.  #7 is 240 from the tips and 215 from the blues with a 40 yard deep green.  The hole is "Redan-ish" as there isn't five feet of elevation change, but the high left front kicker was enough for me to play my first tee shot there with a cut spoon that landed abut 20' short left and ran down and right onto the angled green just as planned!  The hole was set at 235 yards with the pin way back.  There is a deep bunker front right, so all Redan elements are in place although it doesn't look much like North Berwick!

This link may yield a photo of the hole: http://www.pensacolacountryclub.com/course.php

If it doesn't, go to hole 7 and click on the October photos.

Good thing Huntley wasn't there.  I'm sure violence would have resulted.   :)

That 2nd course looks fantastic from the photos

Jason - great call re the Huntley violence - it would have either been that or a lot of people would have received a lot of free drinks....  Tsk, tsk... and here I had this impression of southerners being so genteel and etiquette-conscious...

 ;D

It truly looks like a great time was had by all... understatement, me thinks.  And yeah that 2nd hole does look awesome.

BTW, what's with Flemma in a ski-beanie while the Wisconsin boys are in shorts?  I guess that needs no explanation though, as those Wisconsinites are famous for wearing shorts in anything about 20 degrees....

Mike,
Again, THANK YOU.

We had such a wonderful time - meeting fellow architecture enthusiasts and playing Strantz's courses.  It was so interesting to see the evolution from good to great in his designs.  You could see his nascent ideas seen at the other courses fully brought to life at Bulls Bay.

Oh yeah, Mike - Laura has custom-ordered a Ping G5L driver (14 degrees) with a pink L-flex shaft - left handed, of course  -  just for you.  Seeing how well you her driver at Caledonia, we figured you had to have one for yourself.  ;)

Huck, in fairness to our southern gentleman captain, he was constantly jumping up and down at that point to go out on the veranda just behind where we were sitting to watch the teams finish on the green below.  So, removing the chapeau was an error and omission caused by the frenetic activity.  And Captain Whitaker did gently remind me of Mr Huntley's admonishments when I forgot to remove the "W" at Caledonia after racing into the CH all proud of my two finishing pars.  ::)

As for my pal Randy, all I can say is he did play at least half his illustrious hockey career, before helmets were required! ;) ;D
