Jamie - what surprised me was how fluid his swing was, i.e. how seamlessly and even elegantly all the parts of the golf swing described in his book came together in action. Also, it seems that he developed not only a near perfect golf swing, but more importantly one that was perfect for his body type. I can't imagine, for example, Jack Nicklaus ever having the same swing, and I guess it was the wisdom of Mr. Grout not to try to imprint the Hogan ideal onto his young student. Also, I saw in that video how and why Hogan's relatively wide stance (one that, try as I might, just doesn't seem to work for me) worked for him.
I wish I was a much better golfer...
