Limited Club Events

I just finished Herbert Warren Wind's "Following Through."  One of the stories describes an event in England or Scotland (I forget which) where the contestants are limited to 7 clubs.  The players, national quality amateurs, posted some pretty good scores on a well-known course (although, in another early sign of dementia, I can't remember which one).

In any case, do any of you out there participate in or know of events where the contestants are allowed fewer than the normal allotment of 14 clubs?  Sounds like it would be fun.

Phil,
We have done that for a round at the King's Putter. It is a lot of fun, and it isn't nearly as hard as you would think. Play seven clubs sometime and you will realize 14 is overkill.

I just did this exercise in my head:
Driver
3- metal
sand wedge
pitching wedge
3 iron (hybrid)
5 iron
7 iron

I can play just about every shot necessary with these.  Score probably wouldn't vary from what I post anyway (low-mid 80's).

Many clubs in my native Finland host at least one three club (or even two club) contest per year. Good fun! Normally very little impact on scores, especially for higher handicaps...

Bruce,

You would pull the putter from your bag?

I thought you were trying to meet the 7 club rule as stated above.
