Fazio in his own words
« on: June 28, 2006, 10:09:37 AM »
I was watching a match between Couples and Calc last night on TGC. During this WWOG match played at The Preserve, Fazio was doing a little voice over detailing each hole before it was played.

I think that the following statement from Fazio goes a long way towards making a point that has been discussed on here relating to Fazio's "style" . . .

And this isn't a real quote, as I don't have a word for word copy of what he said but this is the general idea. . .

regarding #14 at The Preserve, 438 yard par 4. Dogleg left, big trouble on the left side, bunker on the inside corner of the dogleg.

" . . .the place you really don't want to be is left, and that is why we put the bunker there, to tell people to stay right".

TF obviously doesn't play his own courses, or at least not the ones Barney plays. Or maybe he plays them and doesn't understand them.

 :)

I thought The Preserve looked pretty nice on TV.

I believe you have to own property in the development to be a member of The Preserve.  I can't think of a better reason to dumb down the architecture...

I remember watching that show when it first came out several years ago. At the time I was also reading Fazio's book.

I don't have moments very often when pieces of the universe seem to come together. I remember it when they do. So when Fazio made that comment I thought "Eureka" - he really does mean what he says in his book.
