Renovations by Arthur Hills
« on: June 29, 2006, 04:47:50 PM »
I just finished playing Manor CC in Rockville, Maryland. Hills did an extensive redesign of the course.  The routing is the same but that is about it.  The course was closed for 18 months.  The greens were dug up and completely redesigned.  Bunkering is all new as are the movements in the fairway.

I have not been a big fan of New course design by Hills but his redesign work is exceptional.  Just in the immediate DC arrea he has worked on the Gold Course at Congressional, Chevy Chase Club, Burning Tree,  Belle Haven and others.

What is your experience with the redesign work or renovations he has done.

Paul;

  To the best of my knowledge, Hills didn't do any work for the club on The Blue Course.  Hills did redo the Gold Course, and to this day is retained by the club as consulting architect for the Gold Course.

I may have a few events incorrect, but the current Gold Course is a combination of renovated original Emmet holes on the clubhouse side plus a renovation of the Fazio layout on the other side of Persimmon Tree Rd.

David, thanks for the threads.  Have you played the renovated Manor CC?  I think it is better than Bethesda, Burning Tree, and only a step behind CCC and Columbia.
