I think I've got more than 30 rounds each in at Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes, and 5 rounds at Bandon Trails. My order of preference is:
1. Pacific Dunes
2. Bandon Trails
3. Bandon Dunes
BD is still a very good course, but suffers somewhat in my eyes because it's built as a links course yet you really can't effectively run the ball up into many of the greens (1, 2, 3, 7, 10, 11, 13, 17, 18).
Mike,
Quickly trying to compare and qualify run-up capabilities here:
PD: 2, 3 (if approaching from the left), 4 (gets easier the further you move to the right), 5 (landing on the left side of the approach), 6 (if you have the angle from the right, left is dead!), 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 (from the center and right), 13 (difficult but possible), 14, 15 (from the left and center), 16 (realistically from the left), 17 (swinging in from the right) and 18 (from the left and center).
BT: 1 (it may be tough from the right side of the fairway), 2 (can-do but difficult from the elevated tee), 3, 4 (from the center and left), 6, 7 (uphill but easier as you move left), 8, 9, 10 (from the center or left), 11, 12 (almost required), 13 (possible but not a lot of margin for error), 14 (if approaching from the left or center), 15, 16 (from the left and center), 17, 18.
BD: 1 (uphill, typically with a cross wind but still possible from the center and right), 2 (never seen it done), 3 (yes but it is a small opening) 4, 5, 6, 7 (uphill but still possible from the left depending where you land the ball), 8 (from the center and right), 9, 10 (from the left), 11 (from the left), 12 (possible but difficult with a cross wind), 13 (from the left side), 14, 15 (the opening is narrow but the opportunity remains viable), 16, 17 (from the left side), 18 (from the left and center)
****These are all dependent on hole location as well...
