JG: Richard Spear is an excellent superintendent, an excellent golfer, and a friend of mine, too. And he's done great things there ... he took over at Piping Rock the spring after we had done our work, with a lot of unfinished construction work to grow in, and he just went out and did it.
He has added a couple of tees at Piping, including the long one on #4. But the back tee at the Road hole was Pete Dye's idea. Originally we just put back markers in the polo field instead of building anything there, Richard did build the tee but pretty much as Pete had suggested.
Mike S: We actually lopped off a portion of the green at the Short hole (17th) and also dug that really deep front bunker; it was much shallower originally. Piping Rock was not a restoration, but Pete Dye's input on a Macdonald course.
