About half the holes on The Quarry@Giants Ridge are visable from MN, St. Louis County Road 138.

The road parallels #2,#1, and #16 and you can also see, at least, #3, #7, #4 tee, #5 tee, #15 tee, #11, and #18 green.

You can get some pretty good looks of The Plantation and Kapalua Bay courses on the local roads, and the oceans views are certainly spectacular.
OT-  you get a great view of Lakeside from Universal Studios and of LACC from the office towers in Century City.

The entire back nine at Rancho Santa Fe can be seen on a drive by.  After 17 Mile Drive, nothing beats the drive by the Shinny clubhouse and then across the 13th and 12th fairways, followed by the redan 7th at Southamptom.  At this point a 5 minute detour over to NGLA is in order!

I always loved the drive by or really drive through at Gulfstream Golf Club with 17 holes and practice on the west side of A1A and the clubhouse and hole along the Atlantic on the east.

As others have mentioned, the first thing that came to mind was Pacific Grove.

You can also get quite am impressive view of SFGC if you park in the parking lot of the church adjacent to the 18th hole.

Cool, I thought that was 18.  You can also get a feel of the East-West terrain changes by driving along the closest road (Wilshire Ave) in the neighborhood bordering the course on the South.  8 is uphill, yes?

Royal Liverpool - good views of 17 and 18 from Stanley Road
Ganton - lovely anticipatory views of 16, 17 and 18 from lane leading down from A64.
Turnberry - views over both courses from A77
Hanbury Manor - good views of back nine from A10 just north of Ware
Beaconsfield - lovely views of much of the course from railway line into Marylebone
Flackwell Heath - views of two interesting holes from M40 northbound at High Wycombe
Walton Heath - slight views from B2032, but there is a handy lay-by in which you can park and then walk both courses - common land.
Lindrick - fleeting glimpses from A57 which bisects course - again there's a handy lay-by and the course seems to be a public right of way for dog walkers.
Fulford - marginal glimpse if you know where to look from A64 York by-pass, but if you park near clubhouse there is a public footpath running along the edge of the course.
Royal St George's - no view from the road, but lots of public footpaths crossing the course.
Seacroft - plenty of views from little road running to Gibraltar Point
St Enodoc - a little road runs right through the middle of the course
Royal Guernsey is amply visible from roads crossing the course
Yelverton - plenty of views from A386 from Plymouth
Westward Ho - little road and many footpaths cross the course
Bude and North Cornwall - eminently visible from main road through town
Isle of Purbeck easily visible from B3351
Woking and West Hill both easily viewed from trains, also Liphook
Rye easily viewed from little road to Camber.
North Foreland - parts visible from surrounding roads.
Crowborough easily viewed from roads alongside and crossing course
Painswick criss-crossed by several minor roads
Burford - easily viewed from A361
Evesham - pretty well all visible from road to Worcester
Sean Arble's Droitwich partly visible from road running through course
Tadmarton Heath - much of the course visible from neighbouring roads - I drove past yesterday and it looked gorgeous with the gorse brilliant yellow in the sun.
Berkhamstead - several roads cross the course
Frilford Heath - some of Red and Green courses visible from neighbouring roads
Royston very visible on its hill side from old A505
Aldeburgh - plenty to be seen from Leiston Road
Thorpeness - also visible from Leiston Road (a different Leiston Road)
Felixstowe Ferry - little road runs right through the course
Royal Worlington - much visible from road running alongside course
Aberdovey - much visible from A493 coast road
Whittington Heath - quite a lot visible from little road running along northern boundary of course.
Thetford - road to Brandon runs through middle of course - much to be seen
North Wales and Maesdu - road from Deganwy to Llandudno passes through Maesdu, overlooking both courses, railway divides them
Railway gives excellent views of Royal Troon and Prestwick
Coast railway north of Liverpool reveals more than roads do of West Lancs, Formby, S&A and Hillside
Alwoodley - little road runs between 2nd green and 3rd tee(and is also crossed by 17th drive - you stop at your peril!)
Grange over Sands (MacKenzie) easily visible from road from Kendal and railway
Seaton Carew partly visible from A178
Southerness partly visible from minor road leading off A710
Enticing views of Gourock and Greenock from passing roads
Gullane, Luffness and North Berwick all visible (in part) from appropriate roads
Views of Leven and Lundin from Fife coast road
Back road in Earlsferry gives several views of Elie

And so it goes on - we're about to go out for dinner - I'd better go to change.

There's a road in Banff that leads right up to the Devil's Cauldron.  It's best viewed by hopping out of the car, but you can see it from the car if you pull off.  The road winds along several of the holes.

Another great drive-by left unmentioned is Somerset Hills.

Driving by on Mine Mount Rd. in Bernardsville affords glorious & unobstructed views of the famous 2nd hole Redan, the eighth hole in it's enitrety and brief glimpses of the wonderfully canted 7th green and it's lesser cousin, the 1st's green.

The views are so good, they are often thought to be deliberate so as to produce heaving envy for the golfing automotist.....rrrrrrgggghhhhh...let me at it! :'(

Steve,

Early last summer I was in the area had some time to kill and went to drive by Somersett Hills, Hamilton Farms & Baltusrol. Map I had was pretty week and couldn't find any of them. Next time I'll print out some Google maps!

How about Ekwanok? Long time ago I drove through Manchester pretty regularly. At the time not knowing much about GCA I didn't know what I was seeing. Just remebering that it look great from the road.

Driving up the hill on Rte 448 from Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow you can catch some glimpses of the Pocantico Hills Golf Course, especially in winter.  There's a brief but excellent view of the uphill 161 yard par 3 10th hole.  This tiny green may have more slope on it than any green I've ever seen.

John,

You should have written/called! You won't see much of Baltusrol...maybe the 1st hole tee and firway and that's nothing terribly interesting or unique. Like wise with Hamilton Farm, however taking a slight detour through down Fowler Road (a dirt farm road parallel to Rt. 206) will yield a good glimpse of the wonderful par 3 Hickory Course. A brief, but worthy look of the 5th and 6th holes can be had at the top of Pottersville Road, but it too, hurries by.

Next time through, take Mine Mount off of Claremont and Somerset Hills will glisten for you.
