Played Portage for the first time last fall- a cousin is a member, as were my great grandparents.

The course is short and tight, with very small, subtle greens. It is a good test of placing the tee ball. It is a little long on trees. Excellent bunkering.

It would be a fun course to play socially on a regular basis but certainly not up to, say, the level of hosting a state championship.

The membership is pretty well heeled- a lot of rubber company execs, but not pretentious.

He'll enjoy his day there.
