The feature I alluded to in Rees Jones greens is more of a mound than a spine.
Specifically:
Lookaway Golf Club 6th Hole
Cherry Valley Country Club 8th Hole
Falcon's Fire Golf Club 4th Hole
Coincidentally, all three are mid-lenth par 3s. The mound runs from the back of the green to the middle front, essentially dividing the green into a "U" shape, with the mound in the middle.
I think a functional difference between my concept and these usages is that the green contours and fairway contours pay no heed to the fairway/green line, and it's as if the green were a picnic blanket set over that particular set of features.
