Shinnecock Hills June 2005
« on: June 14, 2005, 12:13:33 PM »
It has been a year since the US Open was held at Shinnecock Hills.  How long does it take for a course to recover from having a major played on it?  How does the course recover from the severe setup, specifically the greens and fairways, rough, etc...  Also, how does the Shinnecock grounds recover from having tens of thousands of spectators tromping through the grasses and having bleachers set up, t.v. towers, etc...Does a course ever recover to how it was before the tournament or are there changes that just take place because of the tournament being held there?

I played there the week before the Open and in late September and the course looked better than it ever had before during the Autumn, including during the three Opens. That was only three months after the Open.

Brad Swanson, Neil Regan and Ben Dewar might also attest to the perfection which was Shinnecock that day.

Played in August about 7 weeks after Open Sunday; if you didn't know you wouldn't know; even the area where the tents were (left of #5??) had been re-habbed.

Ditto what Gene said.  Shinnecock was perfect that fall afternoon, none of the greens (including #7) were anything short of outstanding.

Cheers,
Brad Swanson

These were taken two weeks ago, and I was out there again yesterday (Thursday) It was in pristine condition and much credit should go to the entire staff.
