I just learned I am going to be in Seattle this Friday through Monday.  I've never been there before.  What courses can you recommend in the area.  Unfortunately, I may only have time for one round of golf.  Thanks in advance.  tk

Tim,

On the private side your best bets are:  Alderra, TPC at Snoqualmie and Sahalee, all of which are pretty close to each other but about 20 miles from downtown Seattle.

On the public side things get murkier, there are no great public courses in the  Seattle area, just some ok ones and you will have to drive a ways and then it depends on what you are interested in. For the CCFAD fan then NewCastle golf club is your best bet, great service, great views, high prices, excellent condition (actually plays fast and firm) and some good golf.  Other courses with not so great conditioning are Washington National and Druids Glen, both cheaper, some better golf holes and without the CCFAD factor. There is a new Gary Panks course called Trilogy that is pretty cool also and is in very good shape.

After that you have to drive at least an hour to play anything decent.

You may wish to take a ferry ride to Bremerton and try either Olympic Course at Gold Mountain (Harbottle), McCormick Woods (Frei) or Trophy Lake (Fought).  You could also travel near Tacoma to play the Classic.  Ryan Moore's family is owner(?) operator.  Could be an exciting weekend to be there!

On the public side i'd second the Olympic course at Gold Mountain. Atypical for the areas tree infested corridor routings.

The Olympic Course at Gold Mountain is the bright shiny beacon of public golf in Washington. I think the pub links is there next year. Fabulous course, the original course (Cascade) is pretty good also.

W.H.   The Classic is one of my fav's,  a fun course with great greens, routed on a very small piece of land. I didn't know Ryan Moore's family owned it now, its had a number of owners over the years.

I also like Trophy Lake and McCormick Woods.

I'm a member at Aldarra, and while I can't play this weekend, you might be able to have your pro call and get you on.  Won't be cheap, however.  Everyone else gave you the best places to play otherwise...
