New Course in Coram, NY
« on: May 25, 2005, 05:52:34 PM »
Does anyone know about the new golf course being built in Coram NY.  Who is the architect and any other details.  I know I posted about this subject a while ago and Tom Doak said he visited the site before.  I guess there are two new courses being built on the island now, Sebonack and Pine Hills.

Hamlet Willow Creek

Hamlet Willow Creek by Stephen Kaye

I think Tom Paul has mentioned something about and Jason Blasberg may know something about it.

The Pine Hills GC (pretty good back nine !) that I know near Manorville has been there for years, so I think you have the name wrong.

Is this course open yet?I was wondering what Stephen Kay has been up to in new course projects. This is a real estate development course. The address is Mount Sinai, NY.From www.hamletatwillowcreek.com

"The dazzling centerpiece of your lavish new lifestyle is, of course, The Hamlet’s championship 18-hole golf course, designed by acclaimed golf course architect Stephen Kay. Noted for his work on such courses as Blue Heron Pines (site of the 2003 USGA Public Links Championship), Manhattan Woods (which he co-designed with Gary Player), The Links of North Dakota (recognized by Golf Digest as "one of the five best new courses in the nation"), and the Hamlet Golf & Country Club in Commack, New York, Kay’s 6,605 yard, par 71 design for The Hamlet will appeal to experts and high handicappers alike, with water hazards, a split fairway, and especially the island green on the signature 16th hole. Literally carving the course out of the community’s rich soil, Kay has been able to lower the level of the golf course by up to fifteen feet, so homeowners will enjoy commanding views that look down on the greens and fairways"

Chris,

The other course scheduled for this summer on The Island is Old Vine. The developers have in the past done their own design at their sister course Cherry Creek, which is a Doak scale 3 type of course.

There is a new build on LI that is Pine Ridge it is in coram the one of the former Asst. from here took the Super's job shortly after the open. It is a public course that will be surrounded by condos and houses. But from what I have seen it is a pretty good chunk of land, but could still use some tree clearing. The routing was done by ken forst but the consruction was done by Brian Goleski.
