Mike, thanks for bringing this back as I failed to read it two and one half years ago.  I must say I didn't read it all this time.
But it was an interesting observation by Tom Paul that all should play the course from the tips.  As I mentioned on another thread, I really enjoyed the setup by playing the tips on the front and the regular tees on the back.  Both nines gave me an almost equal score to create my 95.  I reached most all fairway distances on both nines, and placed the ball in position on all par threes.  To my mind, this is great architecture.

One of the aspects I'd like to delve further into, was put very well, on the first page of this thread. When TN said..

Thank you.  It shows that my degree in journalism was not a total waste of money.  

However, I find my own writing style hopelessely derivative and annoyingly cliched.  I've read enough great writing to know that my own attempts fall woefully short.
