Arthur Jack Snyder-ASGCA Passes
« on: February 12, 2005, 05:34:05 PM »
Forrest Richardson contacted me this morning to mention that Arthur Jack Snyder had passed away last night after a lengthy illness.

Anyone who had seen Jack in the last years will attest to you the bravery and courage Jack had during his battle with Leukemia. Just the idea that he attended the ASGCA annual meeting at Oakmont, in the shape he was in will further attest not only his love for the architecture, but with Oakmont in general. Jack learned a lot from that lengendary club and wasn't afraid to share his experiences there with anyone who would listen.

I feel very greatful and fortunate in having Forrest take me by to meet Jack a few years ago. He was a delightful and enjoyable fellow who probably loved golf architecture more then all of us put together, as well as revered in the joy of designing golf courses for a living.

Services are pending, but a memorial is being planned. My thoughts and prayers to Jack's daughter and her family as well as to Forrest & family. They have lost a great father, mentor, partner and friend.

Thanx for posting this Tommy.

I hope I'm not the only Farmingtonian who learns of this, or who even knows that Jack designed Civitan Gc. here in town. It originally had lights, for night golf, because the summer evenings are so enjoyable here.

FYI- Civitan is the only golf course Sheryl has ever swung a club on. (probably the only one she ever will) She putted for par on the very first hole.

Condolences to Forrest and the family.
