Has anyone been down to southern RI to check this place out.  I heard a rumor it was $150K+ to join.........the head pro came from Scioto.

Governor Christens New Club in Rhode Island
Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri struck a ceremonial first tee shot on September 4 to mark the official opening of the golf course at Shelter Harbor Golf Club, the first private golf club to open in South County, Rhode Island in 50 years. The back nine of the Michael Hurdzan-Dana Fry designed layout is now open, along with Shelter Harbor's 44,000-square-foot clubhouse, which opened in July. The front nine and practice facilities are scheduled to open in spring 2005.  
 
Situated on 400 acres, the course at Shelter Harbor was designed to preserve open space and the surrounding natural environment. There will be no residential development in conjunction with the course.  
 
"The founders of Shelter Harbor have done a tremendous job developing this land in a manner that preserves the wonderful natural habitat of Rhode Island, " Governor Carcieri said. "In addition, the club will provide valuable tax revenues for the towns of Westerly and Charlestown, and will be a source of jobs for area residents for years to come."  
 
When completed next spring, Shelter Harbor will play to a par 71 and offer five sets of tees with yardages ranging from 4,951 yards to 7,132 yards. The club will also offer a nine-hole par-3 course – with holes ranging from 95 yards to 167 yards; a practice range with multiple tees extending 270 degrees around; an extensive short-game practice center; and two four-bedroom guest cabins for member use.  
 
Set atop one of the highest promontories in Rhode Island, Shelter Harbor's clubhouse offers clear views of the golf course, the surrounding countryside and the waters of Block Island Sound. Clubhouse amenities include dining and grill rooms built around a massive stone fireplace; a porch with an octagonal gazebo that allows for outdoor and screened-in dining; club and private members' wine cellars; locker rooms with member lounges; a fitness center and spa; and a pro shop.  
 
A private equity club, Shelter Harbor has reached more than 80 percent of its limited membership of 357.

I just got a look at the course yesterday. It is spectacular, to say the least. While Hurdzan/Fry are the architects of record, I was told that Jeff Bradley shaped the bunkers (which are incredible). Huge fairways are made more interesting by deep center-line bunkers. There is also a par three course on the property, and the practice facility is enormous. Here are some photos (I'm not sure of hole numbers):

A par 3 nine is a great idea I don't see too many places.

The RTJ trail has them at most stops, but as i understand it, will not be building them into the 2 new destinations under construction.

Guys, The Shelter HArbor Golf Club is going to be a great golf course in the Northeast.  I was there for 3 months.  Saw the course mature quickly.  The first picture is the 18th green, second is the 4th hole, third, is the close-up of the 4th green, fourth, is the 7th hole, fifth, is the close-up of the 7th green, sixth, is the 15th hole, seventh, is the 10th hole, eighth, is the 8th hole, ninth, is the 17th hole, and last is the practice facility.  You can see specifics about the course, by visiting www.shgcri.com.  I can't wait to go back and play the course.  One thing which was a learning experience was the greens construction, which were California (sand-based greens, with Greenwich Velvet Bentgrass.
