Woking

A favourite heath-and-heather course with many GCAers. Only a few pictures taken when out for a walk between a rehearsal and concert, so I wasn't playing.  I did play it two or three times in 1971, but I don't suppose it's changed much since!

4th.  Principal's Nose bunkers which made the hole so famous.  Are you brave enough to go to the right of them, risking OOB on the railway line, or play safe to the left of them and have a much harder shot to the green?  This bunker is 232 yards from the tee on a 336-yard par 4.

4th, from behind the green.

11th green from public footpath crossing course.  383-yard par 4 with dog-leg to right, a gully crossing the fairway 90 yards short of the green, a well-placed bunker front right of green, and another off to the left of the putting surface.

18th green.  Hole (338 yards par 4) plays from left - that is 15th fairway behind.

18th green and clubhouse.  Green is multi-layered, higher on left (towards clubhouse).  Two bunkers in front prevent the running approach and there is another off to the left.  C.H. Alison is reputed to have pitched onto the green from the clubhouse roof in a University match!

Great choice Mark. Woking has some fine holes and interesting greens, and a couple of nervy approaches in front of large clubhouse windows! It was in very good condition too, when I played it.

Keep the courses coming - they're great

thanks mark, nice to be reminded how brilliant yet simple that 4th hole is.
