Tim,

Im going Lighthouse sound ahead of beechtree as well.

Mike c.,

maybe your comment was partly rhetorical, but i'd like to hear you come up with 31 better than pine hill in the mid-atlantic.

Oak Hollow in High Point, NC should definitely be on the list. 1971 Pete Dye Course with half the holes bordering large lake. Course has small but wild greens. I can see it in as high a class as many of the courses near the top of this list. I have played the Ocean Course and Oak Hollow was better IMHO. Too bad nobody has played it ::)

Has anyone played Newport National??  I have heard good things from a few Carnegie Abbey members.

JNC,

I too enjoyed Oak Hollow - but I think its a better candidate for the thrifty 50 list, especially at less than $20/round.  Maybe you should make a comment about it on that thread.

I like Tim's suggestion - we should have a list called "The Top 100 You Can Really Play" and only include courses where it is possible to play a non-twilight weekend time for under $100.

Taking the list below, I believe the top 10 would be:

1.  Bethpage (Black)
2.  World Woods (Pine Barrens)
3.  Dancing Rabbitt
4.  Paa-Ko Ridge
5.  Black Mesa
6.  Harding Park (I assume residents are under 100)
7.  Wild Horse
8.  Pinon Hills
9.  Grand National (Lake)
10.  Sugarloaf

Any rating scheme that places Dancing Rabbitt in the three spot, is painfully suspect.

Replace "Dancing Rabbitt" with "Rustic Canyon" and I think the under-a-hundo list would be right on the mark.

Agree with your comments about Belgrade Lakes... The rocks at time do seem  a bit contrived ....

I don't think the rocks are a design affectation, or a "signature" look.  My understanding is that they simply couldn't afford to move them, so they shoved them to the side and declared them a hazard.

And I agree, it's definitely the best view from a 1st tee that I have seen.

Alex Stavrides;

If you like Lighthouse Sound better than Beechtree, then we have markedly different tastes and I very much doubt I could name find 31 courses in the mid-Atlantic that you'd like better than Pine Hill.

That's ok...that's what makes for debate.

mike,

would you agree that the  first 7 or 8 holes and #18 at lighthouse sound are linkslike, fun to play, and scenic?
