Brian Phillips:

I make about three or four trips over to Europe from my home in the States each year. What surprises me is how often I meet Americans on their very first trip.  Given how wonderful the great links of Scotland, Ireland and England are, it doesn't surprise me that first time visitors want to go see them.  Wouldn't you if you thought it might be your ONLY trip across the pond?

Americans are very much like European and Australian golfers I've run into here in the States.  When they travel they want to visit the most famous, most highly regarded courses.  I can't say I blame them.

When I finally make it to Australia, you can be sure places like Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath will be at the top of my list.  Can you really say you are any different?

As for new European designs, tell us more!  GCA definitely could use more of a European touch.

I just read the last few days worth of posts--I love this site--what wonderful statements and senitiments! Golfclubatlas--you all, are much of the best of golf!

Brian Phillips:

I share your sentiments and surely about Jeff Brauer--he's been a huge help and education to all of us who aren't in the business--patient, thoughtful and he never really snipes back at those who snipe at him. I second the thoughts bigtime on the superintendents who post on here. Construction and maintenance are things we can never know enough about.

Concepts and such are things that you all in the business should listen to some of us about--at least consider it.

Owners, clients and developers, I understand about but don't care that much about except how to influence them--please understand I'm not in the business although I do empathize with those that are. You don't seem to be able to influence them, we can't seem to either but maybe together we can start to get to them--how about that?

Brian, since I really don't know construction, I'd love to get together with you some day and explain in detail some of the ideas, concepts and arrangements. It probably wouldn't take that long for you to say; "No can do, or let's give it a shot!"

Good topic Ted Sturges and thanks for Golfclubatlas Ran and John Morrissett!

What have I learned here:

1-That after years of lurking/posting, I still have a LONG way to go.

2-New and name arch doesn't always mean it's worth your time.

3-Conditioning , while important, is was below the list of many other things.

4-The fewer the tree's the better and 0=best.

5-Listen to the "experts" when in doubt.

6-Last but not least, the names, the friendships & the comraderie make topic not the other way around.
