I have booked a solo tee time (if available) on NBWL, check online upto 7 days in advance. Easy walk from station.
If your wife fancies a day out with you,  NB is the one. Harbour, Seabird Centre, walk up The Law, and the challenge of finding The Lodge.

Ive done Longniddry and NB East links (aka the Glen) more of a walk. Dunbar somewhere in between.

I've also used Bus from Edinburgh to Gullane.

Good luck.

The place to go if you want the EDI to EL train to golf and back plan is North Berwick. It’s clearly the best combination of easy walk and great course. If you can’t get a single time at NBWL, the next choice is Dunbar. The walk from station to course would be about 12-15 minutes tops, and it’s a nice walk. The course is better than expected too.
