Per 100,000 holes
« on: July 17, 2023, 03:41:41 PM »
This year I will complete my quest to play 100,000 holes. Only took 55 years. I’ve had 5 holes in one and zero double eagles. Stats for each number from X to 1 follows:

X. I made many more X’s as an 8 year old than I do now at 63. I made more X’s at Victoria National than most other places on Earth. That was a 20 year run. This forces me to break down my numbers based on age, ability, equipment and location. For sake of brevity I will use four categories. Child, Stud, Victoria and Elder.

Child.  4 Years at 500 per year. 2,000
Stud. (2000hpy x .02) x 43 yrs = 1720 X’s.
Victoria. Because I played close to 40,000 holes at Victoria, half stud, half elder, I am including another 1720 X’s that I lied to myself about.
Elder, Outside of Victoria I have made 4 X’s in the last 8 years.

Total X’s per 100,000 holes. 5,444.

That is a rounding error away from 1 X per round. Damn

Wow, AI/Chatbot did that perfectly... most of all the meta-language, pining for us to care, while not being reviled at the machine's pride in announcing it.

Scary, this tech world.

I played 6000 holes per year for 12 years=78,000 holes from age 53 to age 65. My brain is too weak to try to calculate how many holes I played from 7 to 53 during my child thru my stud years, so i'll let Barney take the CROWN!!!!!!!!!!!
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Well played Barney.  As I’ve told you, I don’t think I’ve played with anyone who enjoys playing golf more than you do.

All the best.

9. How many nines has a man made in his life is an interesting question. I have played match play over 97.5% of holes played. For this reason there are few times where I would continue a hole for that many strokes. Those occurrences are included as an X when at least two balls were lost. A twist to this story is of course my 20 years at Victoria. Our regular game included a penalty for a high score which was maxed at 9. Once you don’t make an eight there remains no reason to hole out. Those holes are also included in the X tally.

Child. 4 years at 20 per year = 80.
Stud. (2000hpy x .00125) x 43yrs = 108.
Victoria. Once again the nuance of actually making a 9 when that is the max allowed questions the validity of this number. 12 per year = 240.
Elder. 2 at most.

Total nines per 100,000 holes = 430

X. 5444
9.   430
1.       5

94,121 holes remaining.

I once took a 13 on a hole, it was a high stakes gambling game and no one could ever pick up
