Evidence of the magnetic distortion of the Bandon experience is on the Top 200 Modern list: SS Red and Blue are better courses than Old Mac, Bandon Dunes, and Sheep Ranch. There are others too.

Ira,

I went into Streamsong with big expectations for firm and fast golf.  Instead the courses played very slow, especially compared to Bandon. The designs are excellent but was hoping for less of an aerial game.

Brent,

My game is never aerial :-). On our trip to SS, the conditions were firm and fast. We were there in November 2019 so I am not sure if season/weather was a factor. In any event, I do think that SS Red and Blue are underrated at least in part because the setting is less than inspiring visually and feel-wise.

If you're a box checker and these rankings dictate your destination, does anything beat PH/SP?

12 outta NC's top twenty within 30 miles. Play Nov-Feb. and it's still great golf.

Ira,

Understood.  We were there in May, which may have been the reason.  We very much enjoyed the courses and resort.

As an aside the GW classic courses list seems pretty good to me.  A course with potential that stands out in the top 20 is Riv.  With an LACC type restoration I could see it jumping into the top 10.
