I have played this course several times since it originally opened.  The course was donated to Ohio State University 15 years ago and their ATI campus has run it since then.  The course was one of the better public golf courses in the state and easily was in the top ten to fifteen public courses in the state.

For many years I lived in the Wooster/Orrville area and played Hawk’s Nest many times.

The land and layout were exceptional, but conditioning has never been good. Sadly the “golfers”in the area play based on price and not quality of the golfing experience.

For those who had never played Hawk’s Nest think “if Muirfield Village and Prairie Dunes had a baby”. Several holes were beautiful parkland holes with trees surrounding and some very undulating land. Other holes were very “linksy” where playing the roll of the land was crucial to scoring well.

In addition, it was a charming walk especially in this fall season.

Had Hawk’s Nest been maintained well it would have been recognized as one of the finest courses in NE Ohio.
