The 2022 Walter J. Travis Scholarship application has been live for a month at this link.

Five scholarships are awarded each year, including the named, Rudy Zocchi scholarship.

A list of this year's winners (2021) may be found at this link.

The society exists to perpetuate the legacy of Walter J. Travis and to fund these scholarships. An application to join the society may be found at this link. Travis, as many in this discussion group know, was a talented golf course architect, competitor, and writer/publisher. He is an ODG and a golden-age legend.

Please pass this thread link on to any graduating high school senior, college student, or graduate student, who will be enrolled full time in 2022-2023. The application process includes current letters of recommendation and an essay, and can take a bit of time to complete.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Bump of this valuable thread, in the hope that more students will learn of its existence.

Every penny beyond operating costs, that comes into the society, redirects to the scholarship fund. The lofty goal of the society is to increase both number and value of scholarships.

Spreading the word about the scholarships is critical to the society's mission.

Membership is quite affordable. Your consideration is appreciated.

Also, if you are a Travis aficionado and have photos of courses, or words on Travis' work, the society would certainly love to know of them.

Let me reiterate RonMon's words of wisdom.

This is a wonderful scholarship that is a large part of our mission as the Travis Society.  Open to non-members and all deserving students and the selection process meets the very highest of objective standards.

Please also consider joining the society as it is priced for every budget and the historical aspects and camaraderie are priceless.

What are the values of the scholarships? I have scoured the applications and find nothing. Apologies if I missed something.

There are five $1000 scholarships each year. Our goal is to up both the number of scholarships that we offer, plus the amount of those scholarships.

The society is in the midst of a transition from the founding generation to the next one. We have been tasked with preserving what the founders established, along with guiding it toward a third generation of leaders.

I'm very happy to answer additional questions about the program, either on this thread or via personal message.

Holiday season bump for the Walter J. Travis Society!

This is the link for the Scholarship Application

This is the link for the Membership Application

The membership dues go to to the scholarship. The purpose of the society, beyond the perpetuation of Travis' contributions to golf, is to fund scholarships for worthy students. When you join the society (membership application) you are able to increase the amount of your dues if you wish to make an additional donation to the scholarship fund.

Over the first 25 years of the society's existence, membership and scholarship support principally took place within member clubs and via word of mouth. We are moving beyond those anchor sources of support, and cannot imagine a more enlightened collection of golf and architecture aficionados than the ones gathered here.

Happy Holidays!

Bump for the New Year.

Fresh off an Executive Committee meeting last night (Thanks, Google Meet!) and stoked for 2022.

Repasting this from original post, for ease of connection. Thanks in advance for forwarding Scholarship App link, and for considering membership in the Walter J. Travis Society.

It has been a few weeks, so I'll bump this and give a bit more information.

The WJTS has a dual mission: organize and preserve the golf legacy of Walter J. Travis, and fund a scholarship that supports the education of youth looking at the golf industry. Two of our prior recipients, Clyde Johnson and Colton Craig, are practicing architects.

In the initial post, you will find links to the scholarship application and to the society membership page. Feel free to pass both along to the proper audience, and please consider joining us. We've added a few GCA folk in the last month, and that is heartwarming.

If you know graduating high school seniors or college kids with an interest in golf as a career (or who are talented amateurs but love the game and architecture) encourage them to apply for the WJTS scholarship-link posted in thread opener.

Also, we've had a few GCA brethren join our ranks in recent weeks. Thanks to them for swelling the ranks of the WJTS-link also posted in thread opener.
