Thanks to the Treehouse

It has become one of my Thanksgiving (apologies to our overseas friends) charitable (ok, not actually tax deductible) donations to make my contribution to gca.com this week.

Just reading JK's and Peter's posts are worth the price of admission despite my inability to parse several of them.

A great Thanksgiving to all.

Ira

Just this week a new friend asked me if there was a golf course I didn’t know. I didn’t tell him about my obsession over the last 20 years with this site. All I had done is recognize a Shoreacres logo on a friend and go off about how much I loved it. Maybe the fact that I hadn’t ever played there tipped them off.

Thanks pretty much everyone.

GCA is a happy part of my life. It is a good time to make a contribution to a site that is important to many of us.

Thank for the reminder, Ira.
I regret to say that I haven't contributed in a long while.
Your post was like PBS' Wayne Dyer or Three Tenors specials! (Did you have Goldie down there in Washington, or was the host only for upstate New York and southern Ontario?)

Done!
A peaceful and happy and healthy Thanksgiving to all.
Best

Ah, one must not forget to help fill the collection plate - a tribute to "Golf's Most Beloved Figure" - or that was his Treehouse moniker before the riff raff invaded the faculty lounge.

Alright, I would like to dedicate my right-facing, non-POTUS-dead-guy-on-a-green-piece-of-paper* donation in the name of Richard Dabney Short, who gleefully lured me down this dark rabbit hole, eventually leading into the lair of the Great Bahto . . . . . who called me one day and asked why I was not on this golf website for "crazies like us."

Riddle of the day for the numismatics at the corner table.

Gib, I'm impressed if your non-POTUS bill is the one featuring SPC on the front but there are other "lesser" possibilities.

I only know of SPC from many years ago when I saw the $1,000,000 display in Las Vegas (The Hilton?) featuring $10,000 bills. A friend for some reason saw the bill, knew who he was, and gave us his entire bio. Not a name I'll forget.

JMEvensky,

No, it was not the 1862 bill, but I'm equally impressed - I had to look it up . . . . nor is it two Lincolns, which add up to a left facing cheapskate. If only tickets to his Broadway play were that affordable!

Her Redness (a lurker, but very infrequent contributor) has long opined the Treehouse - I dreamed up our nickname BTW - is *really* a collection of elite intellectuals who would be better turned loose on solving the intractable problems of modern society than squabbling about ephemeral dirt and grass.

Goodale used to pick at me over drinks that *even if* there is a hereafter - something he considered preposterous as a hopeless secularist - his first request would be to question Rodan's eternal grasp of artistic form, while mine would be to find out C.B. Macdonald's original intentions on #12 at NGLA.

But even as an indulgent waste of time, the least intelligent person with a PSL in our grillroom is still a fabulous golf or traveling companion - and God knows, I've been blessed to hang with many of you, past and present.

Gib, as fond as I too am of redheads, I'm not sure if this is the first place I'd turn if solving the world's intractable problems was the goal--the actual designer of Merion being the obvious exception :).

But I certainly agree with your last line. In my experience, those who are interested about golf courses usually care about golf. And those are the folks you want to play your golf/travel with.

Shel,

Most welcome. Looking through the Contributors list is an interesting slice (no pun intended) into posters and lurkers, past and present.

JMEvensky,

The Treehouse is hardly and echo-chamber; there is enough diversity of opinion and consensus of good sense this is EXACTLY where I would look for a Blue Ribbon panel to find an antidote to the poisonous fruit bore by our unhinged leaders.

GCA is like Quora without the inane twaddle . . . . smart money says this is where the smart money lives.
