Eastmoreland, Portland.  Played it was 20 years back and was pleasantly surprised by the conditioning, especially the greens.  Love the 1st green, and the walk from I think it is 12 to 13?  The par 3's are interesting and not easy.

Bonneville, Salt Lake City, the original 9 holes are thankfully mostly unchanged and can hold up against any muni.  The added 9 holes by William F. Bell, are boring, but at least playable.
It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

Over the years I had a couple of opportunities to play Baltusrol Lower course and passed. It didn't seem like the type of course that I would like. Appeared to be a penal SOB that would just wear me out and leave me joyless. FWIW, I have the same feelings about Winged Foot. Well I played the Lower Course post Gil Hanse's work and the course was so much more than I expected. It is clearly a championship course but can be a lot of fun for a bogey golfer playing from a middle set of tees. GCA wise the highlight was holes 13-17. A member of our group told me that the Hells half acre bunker on 17 was new and it's heck of a golf hole. I felt good that with the help of my caddie providing some well thought out strategy I bogeyed 17 with a putt for par. Definitely changed my thinking of Baltusrol Lower.

Bill, I played the Lower Course twice a couple of weeks ago and agree that it is more fun than it used to be. Holes 2,5,7,15-17 are much improved. Fifteen might be my favorite hole on the course. I’m not sure what your caddie meant by the “new hell’s half acre bunkers” on 17. They have been there in one form or another since the beginning.

Tommy, It wasn't the caddie that made the "new hell's half acre bunker" comment rather it was another member of our group. Having never been there before I interpreted his comment as the bunker being new and it's very possible that I misinterpreted what he intended to say.

Bulls Bay.  I have to be honest. I am a Strantz fan and I had never heard of this place.

Bill, the way the cross bunkers are clustered is new and their placement in the fairway is different. The bunkering at the green is also different.
