Tavistock was a pleasant surprise.
« on: July 24, 2021, 07:04:14 PM »
It’s in South Jersey just across the bridge from Philly. It is probably the best new course ( for me) in years.

  Variety was in

      Green internals
      Bunkering
      Looks throughout the course
      Use of terrain

Trees were well thought out. It had a wonderful finishing green. The par threes were so so.

They used the buildings in the interior of the course quite well. There was a barn by a green and the maintenance building was disguised as a stable.

The native areas were what South Jersey looks like, sometimes lush and sometimes scruffy. It was appropriate to the place.

I will return in the fall when it’s drier.

I think it is well placed in its town of Haddonfield, a real nice suburb of Philly.

Joe,

I would like to have you expand on that with reasons.

Joe,

I would like to have you expand on that with reasons.

I love the greens at Tavistock.  We have such great courses in the Golf Association of Philadelphia and I think Tavistock has a top 10 set of greens in GAP.

I like the routing and pacing at TCC, and a big plus for me is being an easy walk.  The presentation and conditioning is really good as well.

Pacing is a good word. I assume you mean that the best holes aren’t bunched but spread out.

I felt that the expanse of the place was a critical plus factor particularly since trees were removed to let you see through the course.
I can appreciate the “ every hole is separate” concept and it would work here because there is room between holes but I prefer experiencing the property.

I played it a month ago and honestly was one of the best courses I have ever played.
