The starter at Pinehurst #2 told our group that we were all free to take a breakfast ball. He then said because of how the course was designed we should play all sand as waste areas. Ruined my day inch by inch.


In Scotland, we were admonished by the starter when one of my companions suggested playing a breakfast ball. It was either at Dornoch or Castle Stuart, I can't recall.


He said in the thickest accent imaginable: "...you damned Americans want your Breakfast Ball, the damned Irish want their Mulligan, but here in Scotland we call it three off the tee..."
