I've never played the course at Ft Knox, but have been by it.  Didn't seem to be anything special from what I saw, but maybe the interior holes look better/tougher than what I saw

Very disappointed to hear about Ft McNair--that's basically where I started playing the game.  Not a great track by any means, but some great views of the Potomac and cool military buildings

I thought I would resurrect this a bit. At first glance Lindsey GC at Fort Knox looks like crap. But honestly, there are some good/fun golf holes on this course. I was a bit skeptical on the first tee (Par 3 to start off), but it definitely got better. The greens are on the smaller side and seeing the gold depository from several holes up close was pretty cool.

Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

Another article from Links magazine. 66% of  the 140+ military courses are open to the public. I played Marine Memorial in Oceanside, CA a few years ago. I highly recommend this course and it was less than $50  then. Nearby in the West Valley of PHX , Falcon Dunes @ Luke AFB is now open in summer season if you like to play very early in the morning. Next for me is Miramar, mentioned in the article:

As the article suggested Mira Mar has excellent greens. Sadly their irrigation system is in need of replacement, in the summer it’s a bog followed by hard pan. Sea & Air on NASNI on Coronado Island has one of the best 9’s in SD County. You must have military I’d to access the base however. If you are in town get in touch and I’ll be happy to escort you on. Admiral Baker has 2 18 hole courses and the North is a very good layout; the greens were recently redone and are still primary bent grass, a real treat here in Poa Annua country!
