OT - Pro Golf: Who Am I?
« on: January 19, 2020, 08:01:59 PM »

1. My name is instantly recognizable, one of the most famous in golf.

2. I had more than 10 but fewer than 20 professional wins...

3. 1995 was the best year in my purse pockets, though 1987 was the last year I won on the PGA Tour.

4. Only one (1) of my wins was in a tournament that is still played...

5. ...And I won it twice.

6.  I played on three consecutive Ryder Cup teams, compiling an impressive .833 winning percentage in all matches played.

7. ...Yet I never played in an Open Championship

8.  My lone international win was the last time the event was played on that course.

9. In the five playoff wins of my professional career, I had the honor of besting tied-competitors with a combined 29 Major championships.

10. ...yet my highest finish in majors was a 2nd on two separate occasions.

What numbered clue was most helpful?

I think number 7 was probably what did it.

Won the 1973 Australian Open on the old course at Royal Queensland.  Once - and they are still playing it!

J.C. Snead was on the range at Colonial and taking requests on shot shapes and trajectories. He was hitting the ball high, low, left and right and wowing those standing around. J.C. could pull off virtually any shot with any club as requested. When he asked what shot he should try next Mark Brooks piped in with “How about making a four footer to win.” ;D

To which J.C. could have retorted with a smile:  "Mark will be here all week. (pause)  If he makes the cut!"
