After reading the article I'd say Oakland Hills has an ego driven COO and a membership that is drinking his kool-aid....

Maybe it’s my working class roots showing, but give me Old Money (like England-old money), a shabby clubhouse, an (un-restored) Doak 6, and a membership that doesn’t give two hoots what *anyone* thinks of their club every single time.

Great quote. I'm envisioning Rye GC on a Sat afternoon.  Although Rye is probably closer to a Doak 9.

Olympic had the same type of person. In the end he wrecked the course, most of the members hated the course, he was fired and now they don't know what to do?

I suspect Gil will build something everyone can enjoy.

I count 11 "benefits":

“It brings consistency to our greens,” Godfrey said. “Technology is everywhere, and now we have technology on our golf course, which is amazing.”
The renovation project also:Adds risk-and-reward featuresIntroduces modern technologyImproves infrastructurePromotes consistent drainage and surface conditionsAdds new grass surfaces on the greensIncreases the size of the greens to allow additional hole locationsProvides championship bunker conditionsAddresses the strategic placement of forward tees and extends the championship tees to more than 7500 yardsIncludes new irrigation system and pumpsExtends peak playing conditions on each side of the season.Golf architect Gil Hanse will lead the design.
