Everybody is right (or not) because it's just so subjective.  Our maintenance meld is greatly influenced by by our customers.  There are plenty of golfers that play our course who are not widely traveled and/or aren't familiar with different styles of golf.  I've spouted off on this subject many times, sometimes somewhat bitterly, because my biases are based on the obsessive effort I've put into understanding these concepts along with many years of trying to make it work in our little niche of the golf world.  My staff gets it, a handful of them literally grew up on our course and have worked here for decades.  We deal with the weather and generally try to follow the old cliche of the most pleasure for the greatest number of golfers we can.  At times it seems like we work hard trying to make enough money to keep on doing the same old things.  We all have an unlimited list of improvements we wish we could make, but mostly have to carefully employ the tools we have, keep them working, and replace them when we must are able to do it.  These days most of my efforts are spent on developing other revenues and resources that really help when the golf slows down.
