There is a cluster of three bunkers to right side of the fairway from the tee.  Sorry I can't post a pic.  What on earth is the purpose of the two on the right?

From the air it also looks like there is a fairway to the right against the road. I thought it might even be a practice area.

Mike;
In keeping with another recent post on Interior Out-of-Bounds at Portrush, the area you refer to is another small field not owned by the club. Recently most of these small outside plots are being acquired and consolidated by the club.

Thanks Stewart.  The right-side bunker lined up with the corner of the structure in the distance appears perfectly placed to penalize the timid who are unwilling to take on the corner bunker on the left.   Aren't the other two to its right just adding insult to injury as that is inherently the least desirable line from the tee and only the short hitter will suffer?

Even the best courses often include three or four bunkers where one will do nicely.
