Gib -- I accept that you don't want to do the book, but my answer to your question is: Yes. Best-selling books (fiction, nonfiction, fiction based on nonfiction) have been written on much less promising premises. As you well know, blockbuster movies have been made of much less promising raw materials.

There's got to be a dream scene or maybe two where the characters have time shifted overlapping experiences, e.g., CB flying in a modern helicopter surveying some land and Trumpet riding a horse on trails over some dunes...
