A complete look at bunkering by Ian Andrew

I just noticed this fine piece by Ian Andrew.

One of the pictures he uses is of the turn of the fairway at the sixth hole at Pine Valley. My son was one over par and wanted to cut the dogleg. I said, "Please don't. Just hit it straight our and you wonly will have a short iron to the green." Because he was 16 and stubborn he tried and failed and spent three shots getting out. He came up smiling. "Now I understand Pine Valley."

Tommy,
Not sure that is a bunker down there to the right of #6 at Pine Valley (it is more of a "natural area" where you just don't want to end up  :) ).  But anyway, I get the point.  Ian did a nice job with his write-up.  I am glad he concluded that bunkers do have a place in the game.  Like any design feature, they can be over used.  Everything in moderation.  Also, I personally don't care for over-manicured bunkers but for all but the best players, almost any bunker is a hazard regardless of its condition.
