 8) Jon, You're right..  Just having fun, though Ross did have some business around Motown.. being from Toledo, always amused that Detroit was being protected by a ring of missle sites and there used to be a missle command/support base to our east, Camp Perry that had missles on display out front that we'd see on way to Port Clinton and Cedar Point each summer..  and Univ. of Toledo Rockets (a block and a half away from my homestead) .. named after program .. memories

Inverness (Toledo, OH) cathedral clock inscription: "God measures men by what they are. Not what they in wealth possess.  That vibrant message chimes afar.
The voice of Inverness"

Recently found a bit more on this topic from a 1952 article in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Unfortunately, the idea that the impact to the golf course would be minimal proved to be mistaken, because even with creative re-routing that utilized all of the existing greens, six of the best holes were adversely affected or outright eliminated due to the overall loss of golf course width.

I also should mention that I really have no definitive understanding whether the site actually housed Nike Missiles.   Perhaps one of our military history experts may know more about this particular Battalion and how they were armed?   Thanks for any insight.

On a minor note (C#?) are you planning any wee special trip this summer to mark this life milestone???
Maybe somewhere, ehm, Scottish-y?

Pete,

Classic!   ;D

Can you see the markings on that plane?

If I zoom in real close I can swear it either says "Aeroflot", or "PeteSeeger".

Tough to tell, but clearly an imminent threat either way!  ;)

Another related article from October of 1952.   Nice to see that reducing the footprint of an existing golf course by 15% was deemed as not interfering with "recreational activities", nor was the golf course evidently a "recreation center".   ::)

Of course, saving the city of Philadelphia from a Russian A-bomb airplane drop was probably slightly a higher priority.   ;)
