Sleepy Hollow hosted the Macdonald Cup competition this past weekend with teams representing Sleepy Hollow,National,Creek,Piping Rock,St. Louis. Someone within the club had the foresight to ask George Bahto to address the participants at the opening dinner. Numerous people told me what a wonderful job George did in his presentation with his infectious attitude.
In the last four days I have spoken with many who I thought had no interest in architecture or the history of the course and suddenly there is an interest and recognition of just how special some of these classic era courses are, all because of a short speech by George.
Recently, parts of this site have gotton a little off-track with some really ridiculous actions and behavior. However, seeing how open and excited people are to being educated about architecture if it is done in these individual meetings,or books such as George's, or the upcoming? Flynn book by Wayne and Tom P is encouraging. This website should also serve the same purpose, and be a resource for people seeking an education in this discipline. Many of the "mistakes" we see, most definately in restorations/renovations are simply that people do not know better and are not educated.
Of course,I am not sure what the excuse is for the people up at Yale, but thanks George, you have a lot of people a whole lot more interested.
