I like the course but have this nagging feeling that the site's not all that.  Perhaps too much "around or through" architecture with limited options for "draping."

I enjoyed Erin Hills, particularly because there are so many options in terms of how holes can be set up off the tee. I think it was #11, for example, that played approximately 285 the day I was there, but you could play it all the way back to 475-ish. I like the options on course setup.

With respect to the fescue, I found it to be quite playable. But I'm comparing it to my home course, which has bluestem prairie grass instead of fescue. Unlike fescue, bluestem is virtually impossible to play from, assuming you even find your ball. It basically is like OB surrounding every hole. So compared to that, I thought the fescue at EH was very playable.

I'm glad that I played EH, and would play it again...unless I had the chance to go back to Lawsonia.
