I had the pleasure of playing The Cricket course just prior to tree removal #1. My host and I bantered for 4 hours about many of the shots that were required to be played, as over the years, many ornamental & flowering trees had been planted in areas just outside the line of play. The trees had matured and left no way to recover from a shot just left or right of an intended target other than crawling in and under the hanging branches and punching out or trying to run the ball through a sand trap and onto the green.
I walked/road the Cricket course after the tree work and could immediately appreciate the difference.
A tremendous exercise for this group would be to play Old Oaks in Purchase, NY on day #1 of a 2 day Tilly Adventure and play Cricket on day 2. The sites are not dissimilar, and done by the same DOG. However, on my last visit to Old Oaks, they had not done significant tree removal. Having seen what transpired at the Cricket course, I could only hope the OLD Oaks members would undertake some pruning or an ice storm would come by in winter and assist the superintendent with his selective pruning.
