Scratch golf
« on: October 12, 2015, 02:00:14 PM »
It has been reported in other places that Scratch Golf has decided to close the doors.  I know that Ari is a member here, I would like to thank him for everything his company has done in the few years they have been in business. Probably the best set of irons I have played.

I hope this doesn't mean any changes are in store for Sweetens Cove.

Such a tough business into which one can make any headway.
Even if your product is VERY HIGH in quality as is the case with Scratch golf.
Sad news indeed and I hope all is well with Ari and the rest of the company whichever way this story goes. ???

I got word from someone close to the guys at Scratch that they are changing their business model and focusing more on the fitting center/driving range end of things. From what I hear, they will still be making their wedges and perhaps a line or two of irons.

I think it's really distasteful for people to be commenting on this and for this thread to even of been put up.  Do any of you sign the front of checks?  This site is way superior to Golfwrx.  When someone is a member of this site and it doesn't pertain to golf course architecture it is very shitty to be discussing this on a public forum.  Grow the hell up.

As someone who does post items that aren't exclusively architecture, but always sourced, I confess to not getting it.

Golf Architecture cannot be discussed in a vacuum. The world, including the business side of things goes on with or without our participation.

Business decisions and results are salient data points on the continuing evolution of GCA. Why else would we be entertaining discussions on different grasses, grey water, etc.?

I understand that you don't get it.  Your post speaks volumes.  A member of this site had business troubles.  So some of you thought it would be a good idea to BROADCAST it to the rest.  Leave drivel on WRX.  Golf equipment unlike grasses doesn't pertain to GCA.  It's a matter of class and unfortunately some on here don't have it.  This wasn't a golf course that went belly up.

Ben C. -

Sorry, but I disagree with you. Information is being presented that is likely to be of interest to participants. No one is taking any pleasure in learning what has happened.

I would remind you that Ari Techner/Scratch Golf was a feature interview here earlier this year. If Ran thought that interview would be of interest, surely the current news is as well.

I understand where Ben is coming from. From what has been written here, it seems to me that the company is stopping one part of their trading that was not preforming so well to concentrate on other parts that are doing well or have potential. I am not sure anyone is having a dig.

I certainly dont see anybody taking any pleasure from posting on this thread..if anything quite the opposite people giving encouragement.
Ben what is the difference between me posting deep regrets about the news and praising the quality of their product and you having your supposed holyier than thou opinion????????

We are both posting on the same thread.
Ari is a regular poster on here and I think posting support for him in these difficult times is 100% Kosher for a member based site, where his contributions are appreciated.
