You could literally go hole by hole with this document...

Joe: I had no idea about your article and this is purely an exercise in education for me as I am not at a club where this is currently an issue.

Unless we were talking about opening airflow / sunlight to either improve Prestonwood's current bent grass greens or to convert to bermuda.  ;D

Scour the web (including this site) for any before-and-after photos where tree removal really improved sight lines on various holes, etc.  Maybe a little photoshop (fake tree removal) on your course would help, but would require more work, of course.

I have seen some great before-and-after photos and they show real, obvious, improvement.  Once you cover all the valid reasons for doing so, a photo is worth a thousand words.  Show some really great "after" photos, and then simply say--judge for yourself whether tree removal is beneficial.

Jerry, your top 3 are the oft sited reasons for tree removal. One of the reasons we've removed some trees at my home club is that some older trees have root networks that have encroached and spread near several of our putting greens. The trees are competing for nutrients and can negatively impact turf growth. Not common for every course but you would be surprised how extensive these root systems can be especially on older courses. It kinda shocked me how far the roots will go in search of nutrients and water. Trees near cart paths will also become a root problem.

Hard Dog-leg left, idiotic tree placement.  From the back tee, with a group in front that you can't see.

Walking up two tee boxes, still can't see them...

Walking up another tee box...and 15 yards right (total 60 yards up, then back to tee off).  This is the kind of thing that needs to be eradicated.  Huge safety hazard ('but it's always been there').
