A Tilly design?

Anyone have info on this course?

Old aerials or scorecards?

Playing this weekend and interested to learn more.

Terrific little course.  Original 9 by John Reid from way back and then Tilly added 9 and modified Reid's 9.

I'll send you an old aerial tomorrow, John.

It's one of 4 completely unknown but terrific Tilly courses in that area that includes Wyoming Valley, Irem Temple, and Valley CC.  After coal mining left, no one up there had enough money to screw them up.

Greens are extremely pitched with tons of slope.  Usually very fast.

John,

Here's Fox Hill from 1938.   I'll be curious to hear your impressions after the weekend.  Given the recent cold snap, the course might not yet be in top form yet but I think you'll enjoy it.   Here's a bit more on the history.

How far is way back?

The club has an organization date of 1920 in the Annual Guides and the article below makes it sound like the course was recently laid out by Reid.  Tillie's work is given a date of 1924.

Sven,

Considering that it was before my father was born, 1921 probably qualifies as "way back".   ;)

Seriously, off the top of my head last night watching the Villanova game I thought it was earlier as most of Reid's courses were closer to the turn of the previous century.   The link to the club history I provided above lists the 1921 and subsequent 1924 Tillinghast date.

On another note, it sounds as though they spent a lot of money on the clubhouse.

John and Sven,

Pete Trenham's wonderful historical site also has a nice profile of Reid, which can be found here;
