I spoke with Eddy yesterday and he relayed these observations, made by what he called a credible source.

The propery is some 220 acres large, yet the use of ESA's makes it have a narrow feel. What I heard, between the lines, sounded like a pre-ordained, dictated shotmaking course.

The other criticism was about the 18th hole and perhaps is a JN trait. Others who are more familiar with JN's work can confirm or deny. The guy said that the 18th green closely abuts a steep slope on the left side of the green, which if found, will send ones ball into an ESA. If this isn't bad enough the uphill approach is directly into the clubhouse. Why do they do that? Ego of principal? archie? or both? As it was decribed to me, the green could've (read should've) been placed sixty feet to the right to avoid the unsightlyness of the structure (any) and allows for more room so if you do tug your approach, you aren't forced to not play out of the ESA.
