Nancy -- Thanks for that bit of info. Doesn't sound like he buthered anything. Still would like to hear from Steve L. as his strong language is curious.

In response to yesterday's specifics...

Nancy,

I am sending you an email - please feel free to contact me directly...

Forrest,

The 5th hole has a bulkheaded green and bunker and I understand was originally designed with an "eyeball" bunker on an abruptly designed mound behind the green.  It's an impressive all-carry par-3, but the eyeball bunker has been abandoned and it has NO resemblence to Donald Ross...  Perhaps "butchered" is too strong - contrived and way out of character is probably more accurate.

I've never heard the term "eyeball bunker". Please elaborate. I am relieved to hear that Desmond did not necessarily butcher The Ponce. One wonders how a conversation about such a change between Des and Don might have gone...I can assure both men would have left convinced he had won any argument!

Forrest,

As I understand - the bunker behind the green was fancied to be designed in the shape of an eyeball.  Generally oval with a center island and tilted severly back toward the tee.

I've been told it was wild to look at, difficult to maintain, and impossible to play from - back from the bunker to a super narrow green with the fronting bulkhead beyond...
