I’ve been fairly obsessed with the game from the age of 6 or so but it’s only in the last couple of years that this has extended to golf course architecture. My entire childhood was spent on the course at Nairn and at various junior opens at Dornoch, Brora etc blissfully unaware of the strategic merits of ‘foxy’ et al.

I’m both Scotsman and newly Australian, living in Sydney for the last 6 years and play out at St Michaels (with an occasional longing glance next door). My ‘playing’ golf highlights this year would have to include getting my brothers from the UK down to Barnbougle for my dream stag do and getting a pass from the wife to play a round at Jacks Point on our honeymoon!

I’m also a bit of an amateur photographer and was amazed to see my picture from Dornoch included in the new Confidential guide.  To combine the two interests I’ve  got a blog ‘my100golfer’ with some brief reviews and a few of my favourite pics. I’ll try and find one from this year to add to the photo competition here.

As for my favourite courses, I would have to put Barnbougle and Dornoch to the top with perhaps controversially, Nicklaus’s Kinloch in NZ sitting in third. Maybe I’ve been out of Scotland for too long!

Anyway, a big thank you to Ran for letting me join, and I look forward to taking part in the group.

Big welcome, Alan.
In the places where golf cuts through pretension and elitism, it thrives and will continue to thrive because the simple virtues of the game and its attendant culture are allowed to be most apparent. - Tim Gavrich

Welcome Alan. I'm sure at this time of the year you aren't missing the Scottish winters. It's an absolutely miserable day in Edinburgh. Partly thanks to your wonderful photograph of RD in the Confidential Guide I am going up Dornoch next Summer for a long overdue first visit to Royal Dornoch and surrounding courses.

Welcome Alan.  You don't seem to have any trouble finding your way to spots for stellar golf.  And as far as I am concerned, we cannot have too many blokes (that's what you call dudes down there, right?) with golf photography talents in this group, especially because I have none.

Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Alan after a few years it will be interesting to see if you still have Kinloch as your number 3.  I look my list of top 25 posted shortly after joining the DG and somehow I would re-arrange them pretty significantly.  Not entirely sure if it's group think or education.
