Bob Peebles - Golf Course Architect?
« on: October 10, 2014, 02:30:29 PM »
Does anyone have any information on Bob Peebles, an early American Golf Professional who had his hand in the design of a couple of courses?

His design work includes The Topeka CC (made changes to the course post Bendelow's work) and laying out Emporia CC (The American Golfer notes he laid out 18 holes in 1911, 9 of which were built).

It is reported that he worked as a professional at the following clubs:

Topeka CC - c. 1911
The Huaco Club (TX) - 1916
Champaign CC - 1917
CC of Beloit - 1920
Louisville CC - 1922 and 1923
La Cumbre CC - 1926
Austin CC (MN) - 1931
"As much as we have learned about the history of golf architecture in the last ten plus years, I'm convinced we have only scratched the surface."  A GCA Poster

"There's the golf hole; play it any way you please." Donald Ross

He would have been the first pro at LaCumbre in Santa Barbara.  I think it opened right about then, could be wrong.  Given his mid America resume that seems an odd location for him.
