It was also the worst winter we have had in 20+ years. We had snow that stayed for a few days as well as the ice storm. That took about 4 or 5 days to clear and we found, over in Aiken, that there was some damage to some of our grass. Combine that with the lack of a spring season until the week before the event, plus the location of the 12th green and it could have been a little difficult to get it exactly right.

Makes perfect sense to me.  It would seem that the information about the extraordinary measures taken to keep the green in good condition, combined with the fact it was not in perfect condition this year, might be a helpful data set for clubs wishing to take out trees or to explain why particular problems exist on their courses.

I think most of the trees surrounding # 12 are deciduous, hence I question and doubt that they blocked substantive sunlight in the Winter and early Spring
